Hello dear angels,

Today is an auspicious day to wish everyone love brand new! So much has happened since 2010 started that I have not noticed that this is only our first email bulletin for Helping Angels. Hopefully as the compassionate movement grow and progress in various international cities, I can be with fewer (and fewer) words and instead, gain your blessings to design more meaningful projects to participate in.

Many of us all over the world would be celebrating the lunar new year and a romantic day.
Let us look forward to a year of great love and happiness, improved health and easier finances. May the challenges that come our way be ones that will gain us logical insights and realize us into better people. May all our successes and achievements humble us even more. May our failures be teachers that will help rid us of evil fortune.

Personally I am learning to find an inner courage and live life in quieter humility. It takes a lot to rid off the private fears and also to make amends with those I have wronged. That is important for all of us, to remove our inner obstacles to achieve greater peace within ourselves – else our potentials would be difficult to realize in full. Forgiveness is not for the cowardly, how can it be when it is listed amongst the most magnanimous act in the world?

Some of us may be single and do not have a romantic partner. May you bring love and joy with you wherever you are, even if cupid is too busy to visit personally this year! We can always opt to do cupid’s work and give love a helping hand – that energy on its own is powerful enough to draw extraordinary abundance into our life. Let us join our hearts and dedicate good aspirations to all around us. If you have a heart locked away somewhere, bring it out and wear it right!! Time to give it a good polish. Here’s to life, to love, to luck and to you.

Please feel free to update yourself with the group photo album, and browse our recent Helping Angels Taipei Concert for Jonah’s Home and Hong Kong Gratitude Letters project launch. Here is the link : http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=photos&gid=5583718222

We were also recently featured on Hong Kong weekend news for Phoenix Info-Channel. The 7-minutes segment explains in Chinese, the Gratitude Letters project launch on January 16th, 2010. It is freshly uploaded on YouTube for those who missed it. I dedicate this new benchmark of Helping Angels to all of you angels – near and far, active and sleeping.
Here is the link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTUbV41pIOw

I’d like to give thanks to everybody who so willingly pooled every individual ounce of love + effort in bringing the Helping Angels movement to so many parts of the world.

Love & Aspirations For All.
Yours, P

Hello members!

It is the end of the year again. Have you figured out what it is you will look forward to in the coming 2010? Any new resolutions? Are you excited to move forward or are you dreading it? At the end of it all, remember that the journey would be a better one if you make every moment precious as if life could be taken away from you any moment. We have had quite a few prominent deaths in 2009 to reflect upon, we can’t ignore and persist life amongst empty but distracting noise. Don’t get too familiar with procrastination.

I’d like to share a few things about new year resolutions. It is important to make them. Like promises, resolutions are not made to be broken (despite popular jokes about inevitable failure). Those who actually succeed in resolving themselves are often quieter than those who habitually fail. So no need to talk about it, action speaks louder than words. If you are focused on some serious personal goals, you would find no room for idle speech. Observation is more important. Listening skills are imperative. Speech unless profound can be done away.

Life’s successes cannot be resolved overnight without commitment and dedication. If you plan on getting drunk in a rowdy party while you make your resolutions, chances are your mind will not believe you. Don’t be making empty resolutions year after year – perhaps most of us has been there before. Take it seriously. Set aside some time in a quiet space to write down those new plans and be as specific as possible – what you want to achieve, what is the given time-line and how you will implement every growth. This is your life, if you can’t be fully accountable for your own plans, no one else can improve it any further. In every resolution, even if we do not conclude it by the end of the year, every effort counts. If there is even a 15% growth – you are already mining your hidden potentials. Give yourself a benchmark.

Lastly, you do not need to wait till year end to make resolutions. Make positive changes every day, so your life is on a constant rise towards improvement and greater awareness. Always start humbly so that you may accumulate your merits for larger issues that need resolving. Start by correcting your thoughts, before you attempt to change your physical patterns. Make instant changes mentally first, followed by your actions. Own your resolutions and life decisions. Build up mental control.

A quick summary of the upcoming year for Helping Angels. As the Thursday Tutoring Program in Malaysia takes a break during this school holiday period, we have foreign events to look forward to abroad as 2010 begins.

January 5th, 2010 evening – Helping Angels will be meeting in Taipei to talk about creating a music education program for children of single mothers, and possibly a one-off environmental project. There are lots of things to iron out in order to make something sustainable out of the volunteers’ joint efforts – so your thoughts and/or physical participation is greatly encouraged. You can find more information on the event page.

January 16th, 2010 – The Gratitude Letters Q1 2010 event will take place in Hong Kong. We are still open to offers for the best venue (somewhere central to the local transportation system) – a boardroom would do or just a room with tables and chairs for 10 pax. A small group of Helping Angels volunteers will gather on that Saturday afternoon to respond to more than 100 letters to Xuan Yuan Education Fund Association, handwritten by the children from the rural villages of China. Delightful letter stationery greatly appreciated.
Background of this joint project :
Xuan Yuan Education Fund Association has been responsible for building many schools in rural China. As their association’s administration consist of only a few staff to manage the fund – the children’s letters are rarely read or responded to. Helping Angels has offered to lend a hand after a comprehensive meeting with the administrator during an October event this year. In this upcoming first event, we have a pile of over 100 letters to respond to so if you are in Hong Kong, your physical participation is most welcome. We hope to sustain this project over 4 such events a year. So if you miss this one on Jan 16th, the next one would only be in April.

February – Helping Angels is hoping to meet with Action for Singapore Dogs (ASD) to see how we can help to improve their adoption rates. There is also talk about a program to arrange for foreign adoption. Please keep yourself tuned in for our first event in Singapore. We will likely start by visiting their canine shelter – anybody can join this walking tour to learn their cause. Children are welcomed.

Lastly, as many of the members are in Malaysia, I’d like to invite you to join us on our 3rd year of the Thursday Tutoring Program. We ended our 2nd year by attending the Dance Style 4th Anniversary Show – a concert held by a local Japanese youth dance school community.
In 2010, do make it a point to visit us on a Thursday! Even if it is only just once, see what the dedicated team of leaders has built out of nothing. Give them a pat on their backs if you will. I can only be thankful for the continuing succession of dedicated angels involved that we have managed through 27 months of highs and lows – growing together. Nothing would have come of this tutoring, if none of us stuck through it and willingly applied our joint efforts plus practical skills to pull this off. May this project be just the stepping stone to the personal success of every single volunteer who passes through it. We have had members visiting us from all over the world!! I am personally filled with pride from every friendship found through this connection.

Wherever you may be.. We are inviting photographers, writers, artists, musicians to contribute time and efforts to serve in committee. Of course if you are someone who is looking to sharpen your management skills, do step up and ask for some leadership responsibility. Here in Helping Angels, the talented are allowed to be talented. You only need to dedicate a few hours a week of selfless kindness to see good result in your personal life. It is really humbling work but it comes highly recommended to make this a resolution. Aspire to be a Helping Angel today.

PS – Try to observe your RSVP habits with the event invitations. If you aren’t attending an event, don’t misrepresent your attendance – synchronize it by clicking on Not Attending. It is okay to Not Attend any of the events, but not okay to RSVP attendance without physical commitment. Thank you for taking serious note here.

Love & Aspiration For All.

Yours, P

Dear Angels,

Here we are, last quarter of the year! So far into 2009, we saw some progress in some areas and stagnation in others.

Our work with Thursday Tutoring in Malaysia is going strong and there has been a lot of awareness stirred up by the local media. We hope from all that, more members will be encouraged to take the step to donate 2 hours a week to the 3 shelter homes we have been volunteering at.

While there was a small Taipei event created in March, we have not managed to create a program that is sustainable. I suspect we need the Taiwanese leaders to step up before that chapter is ready to take off. When I visit next I shall personally learn more about what we can do with Helping Angels Taiwan.

For now we are also waiting to see how the project in Hong Kong will come together. This is the program we are preparing to spearhead with Xuan Yuan Education Fund Association 轩辕教育基金会, who build and restore schools for the underdeveloped communities in rural China. Our objective is to help respond to the mountain of letters posted to their administrative office written by the children who attend those schools. That is why the name of the quarterly event will be coined the Gratitude Letters project. It would be meaningful to read their thank you letters, sharing their life in the new schools. The blessed members who volunteer in this program will gain awareness through further understanding the children’s lack. By writing back, we also offer them international exposure – not to mention the joy to receive mail.

We also started the year with the ambition to have all group emails (such as this one) translated into Chinese. However we were unable to continue with this plan due to lack of help. Thus if any bilingual angel who is keen to step up and volunteer their professional skills to do prompt and accurate translation, please write me an email okay? This is an opportunity for you to plant the seeds of aspiration. By helping with translation, you will be making our Helping Angels movement available to those angel members who are proficient only in the Chinese language – as we are gaining membership in Taipei and Hong Kong, those members are increasing in numbers. For those who are happy to translate it into other languages, please volunteer yourself too – French, Thai, Spanish, Russian, et cetera. It would be a blessing to reach as many folks around the world as possible.

We do have members all over the world and I have personally met so many folks with golden hearts! It has been a real lift to meet angel members visiting from different international cities. Even when there is a language barrier at times, it is heartwarming enough to know that we are bonded with a kindred movement and intent in making the world a better place. We had our doctor friends from Boston and Connecticut joining our tutoring sessions in Malaysia while they were on a business trip – teaching and interacting with the children at all 3 homes under Thursday Tutoring. We were also lucky to have a Carnegie Hall violinist playing surprise concerts and the Kyrgyzstan circus gypsy girl mesmerizing us with her stunt performances. The beautiful imprints left in our minds are so powerful that I expect seedlings to grow into trees that will bear fruit.

Through these wonderful moments, we have discovered little hints of talents in the children we have been helping. I am now specifically on the lookout for somebody who can teach the drums because I noticed an 11-year-old boy with rhythmic talent deftly tapping away during one of the musical performances. Anybody?

If you have a skill, you have something to contribute! The doors are open to all who has the heart to leave a mark anywhere in the world, with aspiration we can make anything happen.
Perhaps you are good in photography and would rather hide behind the lenses, do offer your services by capturing the magical moments for the group. We always say, if you have the wits enough to join the dots, you are ready to give back to this world. Lastly I would like to call out to members who are interested to sharpen up their leadership skills – here is your chance to put your management skills to greater use. Just introduce yourself to us.

Dear Angels,

I am sure you have been receiving regular invitations to our weekly events in Malaysia. For those of you who are members living in other cities, please be patient and just click on ‘Not Attending’. We apologize for the extra notifications that doesn’t seem to apply to you, those who are not in Kuala Lumpur. Hopefully our periodical emails carry some messages that you can find useful. For those of you who are abroad and rejoicing in our activities, I would like to say that your spiritual support has played a role these 2 years to collectively encourage us to come up with great ideas in how we can lend a hand to the society around us. Helping Angels aspire to have angel events and activities near you, where you can participate in person or lend a hand to make our altruistic movement a global one. We do not need to be in the same city to practice living as a kind person and being compassionate.

Recently Helping Angels had the first event in Hong Kong. A few of us met up with Xuan Yuan Education Fund Association 轩辕教育基金会 at their administrative office in Kowloon. In order to understand how we could help, we learnt about the association’s work in building schools in rural China for children lacking in educational infrastructure – they have to date built over 100 schools. From that meeting, we also learnt that the administration receives hundreds of letters from the children each month, expressing their stories and gratitude towards how their lives have been changed. Unfortunately the administrative office only have a handful of staff and are not able to read or respond to every single mail that reaches them by post. Due to that, Helping Angels has agreed to spearhead project “Gratitude Letters” to help Xuan Yuan respond to these letters on a quarterly basis in Hong Kong.

Gratitude Letters – Our plan is to hold volunteer events where we read all the letters and share them in a group. We realize that it will be something meaningful that we can do to learn from these letters as well as to delight the children with a responding letter by regular post. All we need are the members located in Hong Kong to attend the event with an ability to write simple letters from the heart in Chinese. The only things we need are letter stationery, stamps, envelopes, postcards and writing equipment. As I personally will have trouble writing these letters, I plan to draw on postcards and send them along. You may use your own brand of creativity to communicate a smile across via regular post. Watch this space, while we set the date for the first Gratitude Letters activity. Again, an event invitation will be sent to you, if you are a member of the Helping Angels group. If you are not in Hong Kong, you will at least get news of what we are doing elsewhere.

For those of you who have stories to share about your random acts of kindness, please send them to me or post it up at our discussion board. It is a good thing to believe in goodness even at the lowest of disappointments, remember to take notice of the things that you should be thankful for, and not count the bad experiences. Continue to dedicate 2 hours a week solely to serve others – if you have better abilities, do more. Trash your bad habits and be aware of the change you are instilling towards improving your own life, nobody can do that for you. You may set out to do something good to another person, but ultimately the person who gain the most out of it – is you. So, aspire to be as beautiful as a heart. Show love, for life is not usually long enough when you start noticing and practicing good.

Thank you very much for your kind patience in observing the RSVP rules to all our events. You need not feel obligated to click ‘Attending’ if you are not physically able to come. I personally click ‘Not Attending’ when I am out of the country making other Helping Angels movements happen elsewhere. May you find success in your journey to bring joy to this world. Plant the good seed – give it water and sunshine too!

Love & Aspiration to All.

Yours, P

Dear angels,

2 years ago today, a friend and I visited a shelter home to send a bundle of Enid Blyton books. During that outing, we spent time with the children and read them a book. On the way home, a strong desire was reawakened to organize all the welfare events that I used to do, but this time using Facebook!

In the decade before Helping Angels started, I experienced great difficulty getting people to join me for my welfare projects. All my friends were usually happy to spend money to help but most were not willing to make time to be present. Each time, I was the only one who brought a busload of children to watch movies with their administrators. If I had presents to give away, often I had to send them myself. Time and again, my efforts would burn out and I could only afford to reach out once a year. I found that writing the cheque was the easiest thing to do when it comes to doing charitable work.

With Facebook, my aspiration to share the joy of helping others was once again ignited and the projects I had created for Helping Angels quickly took off within the first week. Helping Angels is turning 2 years old on August 30th 2009. We place more importance on the people who aspires to donate their time. For people who has no time or are in places far away, we also devised the way to help without the talk of money. Does this hit a spot?

It is only fair that I thanked the creators of Facebook for providing us with such a useful and convenient internet tool. Without Facebook, Helping Angels will not exist, neither will all of us 1800 members across the world whom I regard as angels. Thank you all for joining and staying in the family. To collectively have the aspiration to help others, is a powerful movement, even if it is a quiet one.

For angels far away from our activities, please continue to give your support spiritually and share your resources! It means a lot to those who are volunteering in person to make this happen for the Helping Angels family. Let us continue to dedicate 2 hours each week to bring joy into our lives and those surrounding ourselves. If you want to start a project for your own locality, do write to me. In the last year, Helping Angels managed to branch out to create activities in Bangkok and Taipei. Throughout the year we also have angel members visit us in Kuala Lumpur from Boston, LA, Connecticut, New York, Germany, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, France, Netherlands (if I missed out your cities, please remind me).. It was a delight to meet you all. Some of us angels also exchanged Helping Angels postcards all over the world!

Angels in Kuala Lumpur :
Please keep abreast with our weekly Thursday Tutoring Program at the 3 homes. You will automatically be sent an invitation every time an event is being put up. One of the homes have moved, so please take note of address changes.

For the auspicious month of August, Helping Angels has a small feature in Malaysia Airlines In-Flight magazine Going Places to commemorate the Merdeka issue (Malaysia’s Independence Day August 31st). We will also be in the Sunday Times Merdeka issue on August 30th, 2009.

In the spirit of our group objectives to help others, we will be celebrating Helping Angels’ birthday by supporting another good cause – The No Plastic Bags campaign, on Merdeka Day itself – August 31st. All members are welcomed to attend this full day event. I will be doing a short song performance around 1330 and I would love to meet more angels, please come and say hello if you see me!

Love & Aspirations to All.

Yours, P

Dear friends,

Another half a year gone and we are proceeding in full speed into Q3. As we grow older, time becomes more fleeting. We get busier with life and sometimes too busy to make heads or tails of it. What are we all chasing for if it is all going to end up meaningless? If it is all about personal glory, what is really the point of living all alone?

After some of my own episodes through my illness and medical hardships, I have come to be thankful for the tiniest things. I am very happy to be able to walk (even with a slight unsteady gait) and wear pretty shoes, instead of being permanently paralyzed from the waist down. Being able to put one foot before another and get forward, is a very big thing for me.

When I was recovering from the first spinal operation to remove the tumours at age 17, I was already entering into a paraplegic phase. The doctor told my folks that there was only 20% chance of me ever getting back on my feet again, and if I did succeed, one leg will be smaller and shorter than the other. When I turned 19, not only was I on my feet, I was wearing heels and had picked up ballroom dancing – much to my doctors’ delight and amazement. I never understood that it was a true miracle because I was too young to comprehend the matters of life and death. Interestingly, the method to overcome it could have been due to not being exposed to the fullest magnitude of my hardships. If I had understood it better, I would have done a lot more with that liberty to run, jump, dance, et cetera. Perhaps I should have gone and become more professional in my dance, now I can’t do that even if I wanted to.

My second paralysis came about when I was 27, we found the same tumours but this time coiled around the spinal cord at the same regions. The complications were a lot greater, with the scar tissues welded into thousands of blood vessels, along with old tumours that stuck like 10-year-old chewing gum on concrete, and brand new tumour cells. It was like a lethal snake detrimental to my future. We had it removed and in the process I have lost sensations in my legs due to the trauma the operation incurred upon my spinal cord. It is a miracle to be standing, let alone walking. Once again, I thank providence for making the best surgeons available to me. It could have been a lot worse.

The difference between me and someone perfectly normal and healthy, is that I do not feel most of my legs and I walk with my eyes to watch out for uneven floors, steps, obstacles, et cetera. I cannot run, jump, balance, wear slippers or high heels. My left leg does not have JPS (joint position sense) and my right leg has no temperature sense – meaning we could barbecue my right leg and I will still be able to have a jolly chat with people without realising that it is hurting. I am not able to sense the pain if I had injured myself, until I notice the blood. I have in the past walked on fractured bones and not realized it. My sensations are very different. Pain, itch, warmth, coldness – I do not feel the same and I am relearning everything again.

All said, I am still working towards another miracle. When it comes to the unachievable, I am rather greedy about challenging life! I want to walk, dance, hop, skip, cycle when that choice had been taken away from me. I want to help as many folks as I can in the process even when I am not in great abundance, but I want to spread happiness. Most people would expect me to wallow in self-pity but in fact I understand life a little better now with the wisdom I learnt from mistakes. I am able to see that my paralyses were blessings in my life, despite that I do not ever wish this journey for anybody. Perhaps it is better that I just share with others how to grow some gratitude.

Lately, the topic of compassion had been a challenging teacher. I have been stressed with the unnecessary things in life, dealing with ego and mental adversities, and human politics. It was really difficult not to feel hurt by it all.

When one is deliberately hurt by another, it is very hard indeed to be generous and forgiving. I know that we as human beings have a choice. We have choices to help others, and we have a choice to help ourselves. We have choices to stop the negativity and pull ourselves out of social adversities – but it takes great strength and self-control.

It is also very tough when one is offended by another, and the self-defense mechanism immediately puts up an ugly attack. People become self-righteous, the worst parts are the ignorance that amplify voices to a shameful decibel. We need to learn to be humble, I have found that to be the most valuable social tool in my life. Nothing earns respect the way humility does. I would like to share a motto that I had been using for the last 10 years on the message of my cellphone “Quiet discipline and humility.”
My idea of improving myself was to understand that there are many much greater things in this existence than me, that I should observe in silence and let life generously teach me lessons after lessons. Not always an easy feat to attempt when my self-importance is activated.

We should really co-exist in harmony, instead of grasping and needing things all the time. That greed is ugly and makes life ugly. The only greed we should have is to help countless others in the journey of our lives – every single second of it.

This is my birthday month but I have dedicated my time to help raise awareness for the launch of The Elena Cooke Education Fund on behalf of my old school BBGS, where Pavilion stands now. There will be a formal charity cocktail gala next week, August 4th 7pm in Pavilion Bintang Circle. It is open to public so anyone who is interested may dress up and join in the fun, the entrance is only RM80 per pax which will contribute to the good cause. Here is the hotline number to the event where you may purchase tickets 017 871 9357. If you do come, please make it a point to say hello to me.

If you happen to fly next month, please pick up a copy of August’s Going Places, the Merdeka Issue of Malaysia Airlines In Flight magazine. There I talked about dedicating our 2nd year anniversary to help The No Plastic Bag Bazaar organized by The Recyclist to give aid to Furry Farms and MNS. Did you know that Helping Angels was started on the eve Malaysia’s 50th Merdeka celebrations? Every year when Malaysia celebrate their Independence Day, angels all over the world rejoice for this movement to help others. So what better way to celebrate a birthday than to lend a hand to other causes? Helping Angels is turning 2 years old, please volunteer yourself to help out with No Plastic Bag Bazaar come August 31st, 2009. Let us all celebrate the friendship of this helpful network.

Love & Aspirations To All.

Yours, P

Dear Angels,

I would like to highlight something regarding this Chief Talker competition that I am participating in. People are rallying daily votes so that RM50,000 can be given to the candidate who gains the most support to name a cause that they chose to stand for.

If you haven’t already read the 8 causes I have chosen for Helping Angels, here is the link. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2292394&l=d34a80c8e2&id=583931916

This whole Chief Talker election has brought me to start looking seriously at giving college sponsorship to aid someone who might be struggling with school fees and need that helping boost. I wanted to plant the seed in someone who will possibly become a great leader in future, that has always been my idea. Never did I imagine that I could start considering this scholarship program so early on, Helping Angels is only 2 years old this coming August. Originally my vision is for this scholarship agenda of mine to happen on our 6th year. As I do not believe in raising funds with the members of the public using Helping Angels, I wanted to wait till I can put the money where my mouth is. I want to create opportunities for people to come and practice compassion without having to fork out a single cent, all is needed is their time and their thought. Somehow when Chief Talker was brought to my attention, I felt that there was no harm trying if I had a solid enough plan to share with everybody.

Hence due to this possibility of winning RM50,000, some angels made arrangements for me to meet with Elizabeth Lee, ED of Sunway University. Her entire team gave me a 2-hour meeting to narrow down on who, what and how I want to do this for Helping Angels. They were very informative and it helped me gather my thoughts too. My conclusion is to give aid to students looking to study nursing with Sunway. Why nursing? Well they are a different breed altogether, really people who are born to serve and help the ailing. I was once under very good care of nurses and a few women from my mother’s family are nurses too. People who aspires to get into a profession to help people on that capacity deserves our help!

I also met with Mr. Lim Tou Boon, the provost of Taylor’s University who then arranged meetings with 2 program directors from School of Business and School of Communications respectively. It is easy to figure out why I want to help people who wants to study business because that is where future corporate leaders will come from, they will be good practitioners of genuine corporate social responsibility. In an influential position to do a lot in helping others. That is golden to me, I hope you agree. As for those wanting to study communications, I am looking at future PR moguls, journalist, writers, reporters, events managers.. They have the power to steer the crowd towards goodness. Without great communicators, many conflicts of this world cannot be resolved.

Just from 4 meetings with these academicians, we managed to nail down the criteria for this college aid fund and also I have been invited to give talks to the students on a regular basis now. Never had I imagined myself to be doing this. I can now share with the youths how we can find joy out of random kindness, the power of practicing compassion, and how to apply wisdom when we help others. Simple stuff like that. Hopefully I can start some young people on angel work early on in life so they will always have something joyful to fall back on when they enter into the realities of this world.

The next thing is that I want to highlight the other candidates that I greatly admire for their passion and winning attitude that I believe they deserve to win too.

My No.1 choice, Tim Fernandez (LIVE & INSPIRE) is followed closely by my No.2 choice Joe Yap (Surviving Waterfalls).

Tim is in the business of bringing in internationally renowned motivational speakers making seminars with inspirational motivators like Patch Adam available to mere mortals of Malaysia. Why do I like his cause? He is dealing with training people who are of high calibre, looking for realizations and is searching for that something more. These folks often have great leadership potential awaiting to be unveiled and discovered, if they aren’t already leaders of their own right. Why do I like to help leaders? I believe that when you help someone who is able to touch plenty, your one vote is being multiplied in an unquantifiable quantum, so I will always support the most sound leaders so that they can carry out their life’s calling in benefitting all their following. So my vote would go to TIM FERNANDEz for these reasons. You are free to vote him because he has the genuine passion to deliver this to everybody. Go read up about him. His energy is inspirational and for someone as young as him to actualize his dreams, we all have something to learn from him.

The other candidate who would win my vote is Joe Yap who is driving a cause to Save The Waterfalls. It does sound like a futile effort because RM50,000 is very little money to do that. However I learnt at the press conference that she has been actively doing this full time and have gained support from the Tourism Ministry. Someone who is able to get the support of government bodies would have done lots to convince them, her credibility is therefore sound. From her speech I learnt a new awareness, she projected the importance of conservation and respect towards nature – bringing to our attention the ugly nature of littering humans that turned some of our natural resources into rubbish dumps. She frequently create events where groups of them goes and clean up the rubbish left by ignorant folks. We need to respect nature and our environment, for the future generations. It is not right to be shortsighted about these things and behave carelessly. So these are the reasons why JOE YAP also deserve my vote. If her cause evoke something within you, please go ahead and give the vote you have for me to her.

Anyway, all I ask is that you consider turning up at our Thursday Tutoring sessions soon. My words would have planted the seed of aspiration, now it is your duty to give it water and sunshine. If you have an aspiration to do good, try with something small first – turn up and say hello to the other volunteers, give them a pat on their backs and tell them to keep up the great job. Everybody needs encouragement and acknowledgment once a while. Come help some angels by doing your part to cheer them on!

Love & Aspiration to All.

Yours, P

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2292394&l=d34a80c8e2&id=583931916
RELAY FOR LIFE 2009（查詢 http://cancer.org.my ）
Love & Aspirations For All.
Yours, P

Dear Angels,

Once again Helping Angels has lined up a succession of exciting events as we near yet another annual mark. The group is turning 2 years old on August 30th, 2009! To some of us who has been turning up to help in our programs, it is a significant milestone.

Due to the good work and spiritual support that Helping Angels has been getting from all corners, we have gained a humble following of angels who turns up consistently to help out. It means a lot to know that there are a network of us all over the world who carries the same aspirations to make a difference. It is really true that the thought counts, a great start even if it takes us a few years to put some aspirations into practical actions. Helping Angels is here, we can come together to be inspired. Look to the regular angels who dedicate their precious time to our simple but life changing projects.

Especially to those of us in Kuala Lumpur, join us anytime, it is never too late to sprout your angel wings. You may have been a member since the day we started, it is your prerogative to suddenly choose to turn up and see what really happens when the angels do meet up. We only have to focus about 2 hours a week to help. Inevitably it brings us to positive reflections, something inside us also improve as we try to heal the world. Many of us can testify that not only do we change another life, but we miraculously experience differences to our own life too. You are welcome to discover how to empower miracles by making a humble act of love the simplest yet greatest reach towards personal happiness and success. I am personally very grateful to have met so many angels who has made things happen everywhere, we have had angel movements happening in Bangkok (Dec 08) and Taipei (Mar 09). From the feedback channels, I also see many informal movements going on all over the world.

As some of you may already be aware, that I, Poesy Liang, was invited to run for election to become Chief Talker, a pre-launch marketing campaign for Tune Talk, a new 010 phone carrier owned by Tony Fernandes, one of Asia’s most popular airline mogul. If I win the spot as Chief Talker, I get to donate RM50,000 to any cause, so I have thought long and hard about how to bring some of Helping Angels’ long term objectives to fruition.

The reason I agreed to participate in this campaign is to gain more awareness to Helping Angels. My idea is to spend the prize money on 8 causes and dedicate all its’ merits to the network of angel helpers who has been keeping the group so alive. This is really going to be my 2nd birthday present to Helping Angels. You may read about my aspirations here, what I will do with the prize money if Helping Angels do win. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2292394&l=d34a80c8e2&id=583931916

The election is going on as we speak http://freedom2talk.org and all we need to do is to vote daily. Every single vote counts as the competition is strong and to make this collective goal happen, I need to start enlisting supporters immediately. Here is yet another way you can help, by registering as a voter and clicking on POESY LIANG once a day everyday till July 10th, 2009. This is limited to supporters with a Malaysian address, you will be sent a special phone number of your choice and also stand to win weekly prizes. Top voters stand a chance to win RM10,000 so if you are somebody with lots of friends, it would not harm to do this. http://freedom2talk.org

Whatever it is, I want to also gain more volunteers to join us in this network of helpful angels, to come and participate by donating time and effort. Forget the talk of money, we actually do not need to reach into our personal pockets to help others. I started Helping Angels in the first place to help in different ways, a personal project to create opportunities for many people to help others without spending a single cent. Too many people are doing charity by throwing in the money, why can’t we learn to be more resourceful in making that difference? We have been mindful with our help so far, and I hope to continue to lead that way. If you have leadership skills rearing to go, come and seek me out in one of our weekly events. The group has been awaiting you and we are a network of friendly strangers, soon-to-be friends, kindred with similar aspirations.

Thursday Tutoring sessions still go on for the group members based in Kuala Lumpur, do make time to check it out one of these Thursdays. We are still chugging along with helping 3 children’s shelters.

Special HA participation upcoming :

RELAY FOR LIFE 2009 (read http://cancer.org.my)

Date : May 30th, 2009

Time : 6pm

Venue : MSN Stadium Bukit Jalil

I will be walking with the banner and want to invite all Helping Angels to come walk with me for this meaningful cause organized by the National Cancer Society of Malaysia. I am sure everyone of us have a personal encounter with somebody who battled cancer, this is one way to show our support to survivors and dedicate to the memories of those who left us. It is an event that is close to all our hearts. I have my own story that brought me to start Helping Angels too.

August. We will also be supporting the No Plastic Bags awareness. There will be a bazaar and concert. If you are an avid environmentalist and recyclist, please step up to volunteer. STAY TUNED!

In order to fulfill my promise to the list of 8 causes for Helping Angels, I am meeting with heads of 2 colleges this week – Sunway and Taylor’s – to shortlist some 20 promising high achievers from the lower income bracket for 3 Helping Angels scholarship worth RM7,000 each if I win Chief Talker. To be honest, I am overwhelmed that in less than 2 years, Helping Angels is coming close to achieving a dream goal, that is to give out academic scholarships to give a chance to tomorrow’s possible leaders.

Thank you for your patience and reading my long update. I do hope to meet everyone personally at some point down this angelic journey of ours.

May you continue to share your life’s blessings with those who are in less fortunate circumstances. You won’t go wrong in life with kind gestures, compassionate thoughts and generous smiles.

May you also be touched by allowing others to help you. Hang in there if things are not ideal in your life right now, this is a good time to reflect on what we have and give thanks for the troubles we do not have.

Please help bring like-minded folks to this kindred group, we Helping Angels need to combine our powers to shine for others.

Love & Aspirations For All.

Yours, P

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=6341389&o=all&op=1&view=all&subj=5583718222&aid=-1&id=528310013&oid=5583718222
http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=5542&post=28548&uid=5583718222#post28548
